Nossos Alunos: Review - Femme Fatale by Britney Spears

On March 29th, Britney Spears released her seventh album Femme Fatale. Spears is one of the best-selling contemporary artists, selling over 100 million copies worldwide. Following the new trends in music, she brings us a very different album and our students analyzed some of the tracks. Let’s check how they liked each of the songs.

1- Till the world ends by Davi Chaves
It's a single, so it is one of the three best songs in the album (probably the third). Its live version, like all the others, is better than the one in the CD, but it is way behind other Britney's singles including Femme Fatale's Hold it against me itself. People are going to sing it, dance it, like it, especially her loyal fans, but it is not destined for billboard's top10, at least not for long.

3- Inside out by Joyce Aguiar
The song talks about a girl who is about to break up with her partner. But, she still loves him, so, she suggests they have something to remember. In the chorus of the song, Britney says two sentences that should be mentioned “Hit me one more time” and “You’re the only one who ever drove me crazy”. Maybe it’s a coincidence (or not), but they remind us of two of Britney’s first hits “Baby one more time” and “(You drive me) Crazy”. Anyway, it was very creative.

4- I wanna go by Joyce Aguiar
This song is certainly the most exciting and vibrant of Britney Spears’ new album: Femme Fatale. If you're sad or discouraged, or even had a tiring day, you should hear it.
At home, going to work on a Monday morning or on Friday night with some friends, or just in the club, this song will play everywhere and will encourage you in any situation.
The mixture of a great rhythm with Britney’s voice resulted in an involving song that will make you, really, want to go.

5- How I roll by Lucas de Farias
The song ''How I roll'' is more likely to make you relax. You almost do not get to hear Britney's voice and it still has various background voices. I liked this song because it made me relaxed. I do not know if it is a song for the dance floor, but it is definitely a good one. Comparing this song with the others, this is one of the best ones from the album Femme Fatale.

6- (Drop dead) beautiful by Luiz Henrique
It’s a typical Britney’s pop song, which has a disco beat (like most of the songs in the album) but no important lyrics. They are basically about pleasure for some guy’s physical beauty and a something about money. It’s not the best of the album and I also don’t think she could use it as a single, but a video clip could help its acceptance. Something that makes the song different, is the featuring with rapper Sabi (who?). Anyway, Britney is back, baby…

7- Big Fat Bass by André Lobo
I didn’t like it very much, because Britney’s songs, in my opinion, are extremely tiring and repetitive, especially Big Fat Bass. Right in the beginning of the song you already get impatient by the repetitive verses, the content of the song is very empty, but if you’re at a party it is good, because the pace is appropriate for dancing and enjoying the night with everybody.

8- Seal it with a kiss by Lucas de Farias
The song has one of the most pop choruses of the album. It says that Britney and her friend can be polite when people are looking at them. But, when she sings the part ‘‘Yeah I want it like that’’ it makes it clear that they aren't just friends. They have to keep it a secret and “seal” their deal “with a kiss”. She asks him to pull her close and not to be shy. She says she wants to taste the forbidden fruit, which is their secret love. I think the beginning of the song could have been different, but it is not bad. It is not one of the best on the album, but it's one we might hear again. I like it when she says she's a liar, because the quiet ones are always the worst, that’s what the song made me understand.

9- Trouble for me by Davi Chaves
If you consider Femme Fatale as an album made of dancing songs, "Trouble for me" is certainly going to be successful. Its rythim is really trendy, the mixing in Britney's voice is also nice and this is the kind of song Europeans are dancing to nowadays. I wouldn't be surprised if I listned to it in a club in London just this next weekend. Good, if you compare with the rest of the album.

11- Gasoline by André Lobo
Gasoline is a good song, different from most of Britney’s songs, which have the same beat, and almost never transmit a good message. In gasoline, she used some metaphors. It’s probably a man that is the gasoline, which may cause a fire on her, something about feelings that is very strong. She wants to talk about what happens with you if you’re in love, when you think about your passion all the time. Britney is a good singer, but if she thought more about her lyrics, she certainly would get more fans.

And those were the different points of view of different people about Britney’s new album Femme Fatale. It is already out, so get your copy and tell us if you liked it.
